There is not a week that goes by that I am not dumbfounded at the depths to which politicians will sink to. Just when I think it can't get any worse I am proven wrong. Lets look at some highlights of these fine upstanding individuals.
Anthony Weiner on Twitter
To start off, lets look back at Anthony Weiner who posted a lewd photo of himself on twitter by accident.
Certainly not very upstanding behaviour, but in comparison to this next one its actually pretty mild if you can believe it.
Todd Akin on 'Legitimate rape'
Now I'm not a medical expert, but you would have to be a complete imbecile to hold the beliefs that Todd Akin holds on how a womans body responds to rape. For the very few people who did not catch it here is that famous comment.
What is even more amazing is that he still intends to try get re-elected. Yet if you thought this was bad well this next one is just stunning.
Steven King On Dog Fighting
I came across this story while visiting a site on fighting animal cruelty. It was this video that prompted me to write this post because I was so shocked at not just his initial comments but that his response to the criticisms was actually light-years worse than the comments made by Akin.
There Are Also Good Apples
Of course you can say that these are extreme cases, that many politicians are fine upstanding people trying to do their best for the people they represent. To a degree you could be right (although I have seen very few examples recently)...but my god! When you have so many examples of this level of just plain stupidity you have to wonder how do these people get elected?Update: 12-Oct-2012
"Some Girls Rape Easy" says Rep. Rivard
I don't normally revisit these types of post but I came across yet another stunning example of the mindset of some politicians in America.
In the below video by the Young Turks, the presenters discuss the comments attributed to a Wisconsin state representative.
